Looking Back . . .

This year has brought many blessings: The birth of Caleb Case in January of 2011 and Sawyer Sanderson in March.

It is our prayer that as we see the extremely rapid demise of our country, that all will sense the urgency to get to know the Lord Jesus Christ as the Messiah and personal Lord and Savior. If you are open and contrite and you ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you, He will. That's our prayer for family, friends and people in our country and across the globe.

Keeping our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.

Our Life Verses –Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance, And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 1 Peter 1:2-4

And we know that God causes ALL things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

A Profound Loss

Very suddenly and unexpectedly on January 2nd, Sharon Case -very loving Grammy of our Shelby & Jason along with Kelsey, Emily, Presley and Cole - was taken home to be with the Lord. The sadness we feel is tangible.

There are two things I've been reminded of as I think of Sharon and her loving six children and 6-1/2 grandchildren: Live each day to the fullest. We never know when the Lord will take any of us.

The love within the Case family is such an inspiration to all. Having only an unmarried brother, I've never experienced the depth of the love of a large family. I am so very grateful to the Lord for the privilege of being part of this family. I'm reminded that the most important thing in life next to having a relationship with God is treasuring family. Beauty is deceitful and material things mean nothing. A family that loves the Lord and is united in Christ is the most important gift with which the Lord has blessed us. Everything else is meaningless vanity.

One Pound Fourteen Ounces

A Child is Born Too Soon - But Doing Great! Suzie Lorraine Sanderson July 18, 2008

Suzie Lorraine Sanderson made her way into the world on July 18, 2008, three months early, weighing only 850 grams (One pound, 14 ounces), It has been amazing to see how the Lord's hand is in every detail of our precious little Suzie's life - all in the course of four days. Our God is an awesome God indeed.

First off, Steph was supposed to get a glucose tolerance test on July 11th, but due to a mix-up in the paperwork, had to take the test on Tuesday. It usually takes five to seven days to get the results.

Meanwhile, Steph noticed that Suzy had hardly moved for a day. Not wanting to make a big deal out of something which everyone says was perfectly normal, Steph didn't call the doctor's office.

Instead, the nurse "just happened" to call Steph with the results of her test on Thursday morning. As an afterthought, Steph "just happened" to mention that the baby hadn't been moving much. The nurse suggested that she come in.

Suzie kicked right after Steph got off the phone and considered not going in. But Steph's boss "just happened" to be there and told her she should go in.

Once at the doctor's office and on a fetal monitor, it seemed that Suzie's heart rate was not as stable as they wanted to see, so they kept Steph for observation.

Dr. Frields called in a specialist, who "just happened" to have received his new cutting-edge ultrasound equipment that very afternoon. Steph "just happened" to be the first person on whom this high-tech ultsround machine had been used.

The doctors discovered that a high amount of oxygen was going into Suzie's brain. When that happens, the baby stops moving instinctively, because the body detects that the brain is the organ that needs the most oxygen.

Doctors suspected that there was a maternal-fetal bleed, but wouldn't know for sure until the test came back on Saturday or Sunday. Realizing the importance of getting the results back as soon as possible, Dr. Frields called around until he "just happened" to be able to get the results (which were negative) in a few hours.

Dr. Frields spent the night in the hospital, knowing Suzie might need to be taken by emergency C-section. Just before five a.m., as he was watching Suzie's monitor, he decided Suzie needed to come out immediately.

It turned out that they "just happened" to take Suzie at exactly the right time. If they had waited even an hour longer, it could very well have been too late.

The most amazing miracle was that Dr. Frields told us if the glucose test had been taken a few days earlier or the results hadn't come back so soon, the chances are that Suzy would have been stillborn over the weekend.

We are all praising God for His faithfulness - as is Dr. Frields. He said that is abundantly clear that God's hand has been in this every step of the way. Stillbirth occurs in one percent of all deliveries for reasons which are largely unknown. But the Lord intervened, and Suzie is our miracle baby.

It "just so happened" that as soon as Suzie was removed from the womb, everything returned to normal. At that point, her only problem was her low birth weight.

But praise be to God, that in spite of being so tiny, she is absolutely perfectly formed - and she is a pretty baby already! Her precious little ears are smaller than a pinky nail, but they're perfect. Her ten fingers - so long that she very well could become a pianist - and ten toes are perfect. She has a full head of hair (which looks remarkably similar to Daddy's hair ) and is perfectly proportioned. She's not covered with any hair or other type of cheesy consistency which so many preemies have. She has no extra meat on her yet, but she doesn't look like skeletal baby anymore.

Of course we realize that the next few months will be one long roller coaster ride. (Last night we discovered that she has a Stage Three brain bleed (extremely common in preemies.) There will be lows that will discourage us.

But oh how much we give glory to the Lord for what He has accomplished in her precious little life already. We also know that she might not make it. But what peace we have knowing that it's not up to us, but to Him, the God of all comfort.

Kyle and Steph realize that Suzie is on loan to them as a gift from God. How much time we'll have with Suzie is entirely up to our merciful and loving Heavenly Father. And we realize that as much as we love Suzie, our Lord loves her even more.

Our prayer is that with each step of the way, our Lord will be glorified by Suzie's life as it has been so far. We thank the Lord for the peace that He alone can give - the peace that surpasses all human understanding.

The Importance of Family

The Word of God teaches that it is important for a wife to put her husband before her children (which seems impossible to mothers of young children) and after empty nest, not allow her children and grandchildren be the center of her life.

However, we have friends who chose to put their children and grandchildren first and did not leave the state in spite of a very succesful career offer. I really admire them - this really goes against the way most worldly people think (as does choosing to sacrifice things to be a stay-at-home mom).

It's only been in recent times (since the feminist movement, I suppose) that family takes a back seat to pursue the things of the world. One of my least favorite people in the world wrote a book several years back saying that "It Takes a Village" to raise children. Although she was way off in her premise (that the government should mold the minds of our children since the parents are too ignorant to do so), I do believe the modern trend of not staying together as a family is extremely harmful and will come back to haunt this generation.

I strongly believe that if at all possible, children should be brought up with their moms at home and both sets of grandparents involved in their lives. If your parents are not living or don't stimulate you to godliness, you can find many older women in your congregation who would be thrilled to be an adoptive grandparent.

While I knew it was not right for women to make our grown children and grandchildren the center of our lives, I now understand that they should be a priority in our lives, the first priority being to the Lord and the second to our husbands.

This may not seem like a prestigious or fulfilling ministry since it is not something for which you will be in the spotlight and receive little praise or recog- nition, but God makes it quite clear that our priorities at home must be in order.

Be Filled with the Joy of the Lord

Rick and I have been married 34 years (time sure flies!!) and have entered the seventh season of our lives - both our girls are married and our oldest has blessed us with two amazing grandchildren. Steph & Kyle are expecting their first child in October.

I'd say this is the best season ever, but as I look back, every season has been filled with joy, especially after I became a believer. Enjoy each season of life to the fullest and don't long for the next - it will come soon enough. And of course, there are trials and challenges during every season, but the Lord will get you through ALL things if you surrender your lives to Him.

Ann Jillian - A Woman of Faith and Inspiration

I've almost completed my second novel (unpublished as yet), and it is incredible to be able write and do research at the same time. My research brought me to Ann Jillian's website, and the more I read what Ann writes and what Ann has accomplished, the more I admire and respect her. She is a truly a woman who loves the Lord and lives by faith.

Ann Jillian is truly the last of the great Hollywood entertainers. If you listen to her CD, In the Middle of Love, you'll see that she has by far the best voice ever. If you haven't seen her movie, "The Ann Jillian Story," make sure you see it!

2011 UPDATE

Wow, a lot has happened in a short period of time. Six grandchildren - age 6, 4, 3, 2, 4 months and 2 months. God miraculously saved our granddaughter born at 27 weeks, just under 2 pounds. She had a brain bleed, hydrocephalus and all sorts of problems. Our faithful Lord has gotten us through this trial and Suzie has very few problems. We're praising the Lord!
